Thursday 31st
After breakfast we said goodbye to Graeme and Sandra who were heading straight for Flagstaff and then the Canyon on Friday and we headed for Lake Havasu 300 miles away.
On the way we stopped off at a rest area and the local chain gang were there doing some grafting! They were digging out a tree and breaking rocks. They noticed me taking some video and started posing...it was a good bit of fun but I hope they didn't get into trouble over it!
Then we headed for Cooperstown. Alice Coopers restaurant. We had a lovely lunch there and bought some T-shirts.Nigel had his photo taken with Alice, well a stuffed one!
The temperature had continued to rise all day wth it peaking at over 110 degrees on the bike. With this and the heat that the bike itself generates around your legs it was rather an unpleasant couple of hours. The distances between towns here is nigh on 100 miles and you are out in the Arizona heat with no chance of shade. Being fair skinned I have to cover up so I really struggled at one point. Fortunately plenty to drink and eventually getting to a McDonalds in the air conditioning saved the day.
Lake Havasu eventually came into sight and it is stunning! I managed to get some video which Nigel will try to put on later. Unfortunately the bike is too fast and shaky to take photos as you go. The scenery with the mountains and green lake is spectacular.
After tea we had a lovely walk around 'London town' which looks nothing like London! The old London bridge was brought here in the early 1970's after a local businessman thought he was buying Tower bridge!
We both think it looks lovely here though.
